About

Dustin Frelich, known musically under the moniker The Stringed Theory, has been making music in one form or another for the better part of a decade. Born in 1981, he has played many instruments over the years yet claims to be a master of none. He does, however, play a mean computer and takes any opportunity to wax poetic on the wonders of computer-based music production.

His studio project, The Stringed Theory, is named after the theoretical physics concept of string theory, a model of our universe in which tiny oscillating strings form the basis of everything - unifying the infinitesimally small with the incomprehensibly grandiose. The Stringed Theory name plays upon that concept as musical resonances take the place of strings in the construction of textured and layered ambient music.

FAQ

Can you tell me more about string theory?

I enjoy the topic but I'm not an expert. Your best bet is to start here, here or here. Or you can watch NOVA's excellent The Elegant Universe online for free.

How do you choose your song titles?

Each song is named after a concept or idea found in, or closely related to, string theory.

What equipment do you use?

The Stringed Theory's music is composed on a computer, relying heavily upon the use of software synthesizers and other computer-based sound generators, effects and plugins. I also have the obligatory audio interface, monitors and headphones for sound interaction, as well as a few MIDI controllers for composing and tweaking. All sound generation, composition, arrangements, mixing and mastering is done by yours truly.

Can I use one of your tracks for a project?

Probably. Contact me with the details and we'll work something out.

How can I contact The Stringed Theory?
